Larva stamps sound quite  unusual but here are larva stamps from Korea Post. Here are the details about these beautiful stamps.

Adorable and endearing caterpillars slithering along in a delightful manner –These are Yellow and Red, the main characters of “Larva”, the fourth in the Korean Character Series. This animated cartoon, Larva, is a story that unfolds around two caterpillars which, at the pre-butterfly stage, go through various escapades in the world of human beings. Occasionally, fighting, sometimes in danger, they make their way ingeniously through all difficulties.

First broadcast in 2011, the 3D animation “Larva” has, from the beginning, created a large fan base of both children and adults thanks in part to the unique, comical appearance of its two main characters, and to the slapstick comedy which continues without lines. Currently, it is sparking a craze not only in the domestic market but also in foreign markets, with about 1,000 items of related character products available and the cartoon itself being broadcast in 97 countries around the world.

The Larva stamps are issued in the form of stickers featuring: the insatiable and idiotic yet multi-faceted Yellow; Red, a quick-tempered and radical but skillful greedy head; Pink, whose charming face hides a great strength; Brown, an unconventional dung beetle, keen on collecting his precious dung; Black, a beetle of superhuman strength with deadly force and punch; and Prussian, a parrot which, looking down from above, smacks of a nasty, bossy force. Additionally, included on the margin of the stamps are various kinds of stickers that can be used in conjunction with the stamps.

Red Gerbera on stamp

Israel Post issued a definitive stamp featuring Red Gerbera. The stamp was issued as part of the Gerberas definitive stamp series.

The Gerbera, or Transvaal Daisy, is an ornamental plant belonging to the sunflower family (Asteraceae). It was named in honor of German botanist Traugott Gerber and originates from the Transvaal region of South Africa.

Some 30 species of Gerbera grow in the wild and they are prevalent in South America, Africa and tropical Asia. The Gerbera is also known as the African Daisy.

The Gerbera has a large head with striking two-lipped ray florets in various colors. The flower heads can be as small as 2 cm in diameter (mini) or up to 12 cm (Gerbera “Golden Serena”). The Gerbera has a long stem and no leaves.

The Gerbera is extremely popular and is widely used as a decorative garden plant or as cut flowers, which last for a relatively long period of time. In recent years new Gerbera species have been cultivated which are designed to grow in flowerpots.

The stamp tab also features 3 gerbera flowers of different colors.

Israel’s National Heritage Landmarks

image

In 2010 the Israeli government initiated the Empowerment of National Heritage Infrastructure Project, whose goal is to rehabilitate and empower this infrastructure by investing in the preservation, restoration, development, study, publicity, advertising and marketing of historical assets and cultural treasures in order to strengthen Israel’s identity, cultural wealth and unifying strength. The Heritage Project includes hundreds of cultural assets, five of which are featured on the stamps in this series.

City of David, Jerusalem

The City of David, the first capital of the united Jewish nation, was captured from the Jebusites by King David 3,000 years ago. Located just below Mount Moriah, the City of David was the center of Ancient Jerusalem and served as the setting in which many of the events described in the Bible occurred.

The Heritage Project will present a nighttime display for the general public that will relate the incredible story of the City of David.

The stamp bears a bulla featuring the seal of Gemaryahu ben Shaphan (who is mentioned in the Book of Jeremiah) against the background of an aerial photo of the City of David.

The stamp tab features the Shiloach Inscription which describes the architectural feat of the digging of Hezekiah’s Tunnel inside of which the inscription was discovered.

Ein Keshatot, Golan

In the late 19th century, the remains of a Jewish village dating back to the time of the Mishnah and the Talmud were discovered in the southern Golan. A 5th century synagogue was uncovered in the center of the village, one of the most beautiful ever unearthed in Eretz Israel.

The site, known today as Ein Keshatot, was destroyed in the 8th century by an earthquake. As part of the Heritage Project, the synagogue is being restored and the overall site is being developed.

The stamp features the restored synagogue and the dais for the Holy Ark.

The stamp tab depicts the menorah engraved on the capital of one of the columns in the synagogue.

Synagogue, Peki’in

In the early 20th century, Yitzhak Ben-Zvi came to the Galilean village of Peki’in, where he met members of the Musta’arabi community, Jews who according to tradition never left Eretz Israel and continued to work the land. The Jews of Peki’in epitomized the preservation of the connection to the land of Eretz Israel. The synagogue located at the center of the village was renovated in the 19th century and two ancient stone tablets were incorporated into its walls. A menorah is engraved on one of the tablets, and a Holy Ark on the other. The Heritage Project is focused on documenting the history of the Peki’in community and on preserving the ancient synagogue.

The stamp features the Peki’in synagogue as well as the engraved menorah.

The stamp tab depicts a relief of the Holy Ark.

Detention Camp, Atlit

The restrictions imposed by British Mandate authorities on the entry of Jews into Eretz Israel forced Yishuv leaders and various immigration movements to act illegally and bring the Jewish immigrants in on dilapidated ships and under harsh conditions. The British did everything they could to capture the immigrant ships and transfer their passengers to detention camps which were constructed first in Atlit and later in Cyprus. The Society for Preservation of Israel Heritage Sites, which maintains the camp, purchased and renovated a ship similar to those that served to bring the Jewish immigrants and built an exhibit inside, reflecting the immigrants’ living conditions. The site is being developed within the framework of the Heritage Project, including the renovation of the main buildings and the design of exhibits inside them.

The stamp features a ship similar to those used to bring immigrants against the background of barracks at the Atlit detention camp.

The stamp tab shows passengers disembarking from the “Umot Me’uchadot” (united nations) immigrant ship onto the shore in Nahariya.

Independence Hall, Tel-Aviv

The “two-thousand-year-old hope to be a free people in our land” was realized on May 14, 1948 with the declaration of the establishment of the State of Israel. The declaration ceremony was conducted in the home of Meir Dizengoff, one of the first homes built in Ahuzat Bayit, Tel-Aviv’s first neighborhood. The building was later turned into an art museum. David Ben Gurion read the Declaration of Independence, which was signed at the bottom by members of the Provisional State Council. As part of the Heritage Project, the declaration hall was renovated and an Independence Museum is to be established there.

The stamp features the Declaration of Independence against the background of Independence Hall.

The stamp tab shows David Ben Gurion reading the Declaration of Independence as he announces the establishment of the State of Israel.

German Post issued a stamp commemorating the 1250th anniversary of the Lorsch Abbey, former Imperial Abbey in Lorsch,Germany, about 10 km east of Worms, one of the most renowned monasteries of the Carolingian Empire. Even in its ruined state, its remains are among the most important pre-Romanesque-Carolingian style buildings in Germany. Its chronicle, entered in the Lorscher Codex compiled in the 1170s (now in the state archive at Wurzburg) is a fundamental document for early medieval German history. Swiss Post issue a Miniature sheet on famous Matter Valley. The issue is perfect for this winter time !! The Matter Valley  is located in southwestern Switzerland, south of the Rhone valley in the canton of Valais. The village of Zermatt is the most important settlement of the valley, which is surrounded by many four-thousanders, including the Matterhorn.

This valley where 29 four-thousand-metre peaks line the course of the Matter Vispa river is a “must” for mountain lovers! And there is plenty to discover here, in the “deepest valley of the Alps”.

The 30-kilometre journey through the so- called Nikolai Valley begins in Stalden, at the confluence of the Matter and Saaser Vispa rivers. The first steam train trav-elled from Visp to Zermatt in 1891, taking passengers on a two-and-a-half hour trip, confined to the summer months, through wild, romantic scenery along the Matter Vispa.

The railway began operating all year round from 1929 following electrifi-cation of the track. Today, this same train journey takes just 50 minutes but the experience remains totally electrifying.

image

Valley of records

Near Grächen which enjoys nearly 300 sunny days per year, annual rainfall is just 550 mililitres (compared with Zurich’s 1200 or so millilitres), the lowest recorded in Switzerland. Visperterminen is home to Europe’s highest vineyards, producing rare wine varieties, like the eminently quaffable Heida, at altitudes up to and over 1,000 metres above sea- level.

Above Gspon near Staldenried, forests of stone pines defy the harsh climatic conditions, growing at altitudes of up to 2,400 metres, making it the highest timber line in Switzerland! Besides the many four-thousand-metre mountains that shelter it, the Matter Valley’s south-facing orientation also influences its climate. Did you know, for instance, that Zermatt is on the same latitude as Lugano?

The height difference in the Matter Valley is almost 4,000 metres, ranging from Stalden (at 795 metres) to the Dufourspitze in the Monte Rosa massif, the highest point at 4,634 metres above sea-level. And it is precisely this 3,839-metre height difference that has earned the Matter Valley its nickname of the “deepest valley in the Alps”.

Ground Zero Monument

image

Date of Issue : 22 September 2013

Here is a new stamp from Brazil featuring Ground Zero Monument on the Equator. In this new issue, the Brazilian Post is drawing attention to the touristic importance of the Ground Zero Monument on the Equator, as well as spotlighting the culture of the state of Amapa, known as “The Middle of the World,” a tribute that greatly honors the people of Amapa.

The stamp portrays the verticality of the Ground Zero. In the background, there is a map of South America, with the state of Amapa highlighted in salmon. A representation of the Equator runs through the state capital, Macapa, which is where the monument is situated. In the foreground, the focus is on the view from the terrace of this tourist site, where the monument shows the dividing line between the two hemispheres, along with some of the surrounding trees. It is also possible to see images of the tourists that visit the place every day. The stamp was produced using digital painting techniques.

Amapa, the only Brazilian state whose capital city is “cut” by the imaginary line that is the Equator and which binds the two hemispheres. It is the only place in the world where the longest river on Earth crosses the Equator. Amapa, home to a people of impeccable culture, a welcoming people with an exotic cuisine, surprising tales and millions of charms. Millions of charms and a special richness to make the sun shine more strongly and perfectly twice a year. This event is the equinox phenomenon, which occurs in the state capital, Macapa, and can be best observed in March and September at the Ground Zero Monument on the Equator.

The monument was built to register the geographical evidence for the Equator and features an obelisk represented by a sundial. It is strategically positioned between the Northern and Southern hemispheres to enable visitors to walk along a physical mark corresponding to the imaginary line. This observation, made with the naked eye, is harmonious and attracts tourists from all over Brazil and the world, making the capital “glow” with academics, researchers, mystics and admirers who gather around the monument.

It lies 5km from the center of Macapa, and consists of a terrace, a space for shows, an exhibition hall, a store selling handcrafted products, and a large parking lot.

The monument is found in the Middle of the World Park, a tourist complex that also includes the Zerao Stadium, where the halfway line of the soccer pitch corresponds to the imaginary line of the Equator; the Sambodrome – the stage where Samba Schools parade and where the Sambodrome Popular Arts School is located.
